Postgame Wrap: (VIDEO) Cubs 8, Angels 8; The Blue Hornet Strikes Again!

Jason Heyward (a.k.a., The Blue Hornet), hit a three-run home run in the top of the third inning. If there was any doubt that Heyward had a super-natural experience yesterday after being stung by a swarm of bees, the doubts should now be erased as he’s hit his second home run since becoming the Blue Hornet. Here’s visual proof of his transformation:

On the human side of the Cubs, Kyle Hendricks had a tough outing, with the wind gusting out, giving up six runs off nine hits, two walks and four strikeouts. He managed to hang around until the middle of the sixth inning, so the good news is that he was able to get stretched out a bit today. He mentioned after the game that there were a lot of positives including that he still felt strong in the sixth inning. Here is the box score.

Of the offense starters today, Tommy La Stella looked solid going 3 for 4 including a double, one run and one RBI. As I wrote here earlier today, I expect that Tommy will make the 25-man roster on opening day. He’s looked solid this spring since his return from a calf injury and there’s no reason to think he won’t make the cut.

Albert Almora also had a solid day today, as he went 3 for 3, including a walk, one run and one RBI.

With the wind blowing out today there were five home runs between both clubs. For the Cubs, the aforementioned Blue Hornet, along with Anthony Rizzo and Matt Murton all hit deep balls today.

The Cubs head back to Sloan Park tomorrow where Jake Arrieta will make his first appearance since leaving early last week against the Giants due to a blister on this finger. Jake threw a 46 pitch bullpen session on Easter Sunday and felt solid, so he’s ready to go tomorrow. The Cubs will take on the Athletics at 3:05 CDT.
