Cubs Clips: Watch Russell Triple, Hendricks Solid, Baez Hustle Slide, Rizzo Game Winner
Last night was only the second one-run game the Cubs have won all year. They lead the league in run differential at +69, with the next closest team — the Nationals — at +33. That’s incredible.
There were a few critical plays last night that led to the Cubs win. Addison Russell hit a base-clearing triple, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kyle Hendricks pitched his finest outing of the year, even though he got pulled in the bottom of the fifth for a pinch hitter. Javier Baez stole second base on a masterful and evasive slide to get into position to score the eventual game-winning run. Anthony Rizzo hit the game-winning double to score Baez as he hustled home. Hector Rondon came in to shut it down and get his fourth save of the year.
Here’s some video visualization:
Gotta love the slide and enthusiasm from Russell after his triple:
Why are you flexing, @Addison_Russell?
