Chicago Cubs Lineup: Hendricks Pitching, Contreras Catching, Baez at Second

Today is my last day in Chicago and it’s been an amazing four days. The Cubs have treated me to three wins in all three games I’ve been to and today I’m hoping is no different. It’s so cool to be able to watch the Cubs on this historic streak. This afternoon they’re going for their 12th consecutive win. The last time they won that many was back in 2001 when they won 12 straight from May 19-June 2.

Kyle Hendricks (11-7, 2.17 ERA) will be the man on the mound for the Chicago Cubs (73-41) today. He’s been having an exceptional season so far and, pending today’s outcome, could very soon be the pitcher with the lowest ERA in the game, as Clayton Kershaw won’t be qualified for much longer.

The Cubs are fielding an entirely different outfield today than they did yesterday. There aren’t many teams that can do that, at least not many teams who are on a 11-game winning streak.

Javier Baez is in at second base, where Joe has had him playing a lot lately. That will shift Ben Zobrist to left field. Willson Contreras seems to be settling in as the catcher of choice for Kyle Hendricks.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are sending out Luke Weaver for his major league debut. Talk about being thrown right into the fire. I can’t even imagine what thoughts must be swimming around in his dome this morning…
