Wrigley Construction Update: There’s Grass on the Field!

Those who’ve been following the saga of the Wrigley overhaul that’s been taking place since pretty much right after the final out of Game 5 of the World Series know what an undertaking it’s been. And while the ballpark’s facade and adjacent plaza are still undergoing some touch-ups, it’s the field that has really garnered attention.

After all, it’s a little off-putting to see Wrigley sans grass only a couple weeks from the home opener.

That was the scene just a week ago, though sod came in by the truckload this past Friday to remedy the situation. Speaking of, our post about how this commercial turf is raised and harvested was one of our most popular in the last month. Sounds weird until you find yourself mesmerized by the videos.

And now, thanks again to the fine folks at Wrigley Aerials (@WrigleyAerials on Twitter), we’ve got our first looks (finally) at a fully sodded Wrigley Field. And in a week, we’ll get our first looks at a fully sotted Wrigley Field.

From this vantage point you can clearly make out the seams and see exactly how those big rolls of sod were laid out. But you can rest assured that they’ll be looking plenty bright and will provide solid footing for the Cubs when they take the field on April 10.

God, that’s a beautiful sight. It’s really impressive when you think about the amount of work that went into this in a relatively short period of time. Can’t wait to get back there.
