Today’s Game (Saturday) Has Been PPD Due to Rain

To call Jake Arrieta’s season a disappointment would be both accurate and premature. Though he’s been unable to keep the opposition of the board in all but one start, he thinks he’s identified the mechanical flaws that have led to the issues.

Those adjustments will be put to the test against a Brewers team that has no trouble hitting dingers and hanging crooked numbers. After Friday’s slop-fest, it’d be nice for Arrieta to put up a few clean innings out of the gate and give his offense a chance to jump out front early.

That means Kyle Schwarber making good on a high contact rate and low BABIP that tells us he should be better than what his box score numbers show. Giving Kris Bryant more at-bats would be a decent way to get things started.

They’ll be trying to get it done against righty Chase Anderson, who has allowed only three earned runs in his last four starts. The Cubs were responsible for two of those back on April 17, but it wasn’t enough to get a win. Nor will it be this afternoon.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:20, but there’s a lot of rain in the forecast. Here’s to hoping we don’t see a repeat of Friday’s mess that saw both teams playing in conditions that were not fit for baseball.
