Cubs Trade Rumors: Cubs ‘Have Pulled Ahead’ for Tigers Reliever Justin Wilson

As reported earlier by Ken Rosenthal and Joel Sherman, the Cubs have been working in earnest to land high-leverage lefty reliever Justin Wilson from the Tigers. And FanRag’s Jon Heyman is reporting that “the Cubs have pulled ahead and are closing in on the deal.”

The Dodgers, Astros, and Nationals were said to be in on Wilson as well, with the Indians as a possible dark horse. As such, it’ll take a big haul to land him. Top-ranked prospect Jeimer Candelario and outfielder Mark Zagunis (also among Cubs top 10) were healthy scratches from tonight’s Iowa Cubs game and are reportedly involved in the deal.

There are all kinds of moving parts here and talks could include Alex Avila and/or Justin Verlander, though the crux of the deal is Wilson and Candelario. If Verlander is indeed being discussed, which is decidedly within the realm of possibility, it’ll come down to how much money the Tigers are willing to eat.

Multiple outlets are reporting that it’s close, so expect something soon.

***UPDATE***

While it was first thought that Zagunis was the second prospect heading to Detroit, it appears things have shifted a bit.

Woow.
