Cubs Roster Update: Taylor Davis Called Up, Jacob Hannemann DFA’d, Jack Leathersich Claimed by Pirates
The Cubs have selected the contract of viral video sensation Taylor Davis, giving them four catchers on the roster. That’s bound to go to five when Willson Contreras is activated, but we’re looking at a little while before that happens.

Not only is he really good at finding the red light on the live camera, Davis has a pretty good eye at the plate. The former undrafted free agent has slashed .297/.357/.429 for the AAA Iowa Cubs and is known as a great clubhouse presence.
In order to make room on the roster, the Cubs designated Jacob Hannemann for assignment. The outfielder was almost immediately claimed by Seattle (which also claimed RHP Seth Frankoff following his designation last week), so here’s to hoping he’ll get a chance to make it there.
In other waiver-claim news, lefty reliever Jack Leathersich (DFA’d to make room for Leonys Martin) has been picked up the Pirates. Which I think we all realize means he’ll appear against the Cubs in this series and will strike out the side at least twice.
While it’s obvious you can’t keep everyone, this is the downside of having a stacked roster.
