Russell Takes BP Again, Could Return Within Week

Addison Russell took BP for the second straight day and he’ll take it easy Friday, but all signs point toward him making it back prior to the end of the regular season. While the Cubs aren’t offering any timelines, Tribune beat writer Mark Gonzales speculated that the shortstop could be back in a week.

Or perhaps it’s more appropriate to say Gonzales suggested that a return by next Thursday is at least a possibility. It’s certainly a good sign that Russell has gotten in some running and cage work over the last few days, clear indications that his troublesome foot is feeling better.

We’ll probably have a more developed picture this weekend once Russell resumes activities, but I’m anticipating more good news.
