Cubs Quick Hits: Zobrist’s Numbers Look Like Vintage Zobrist
The Cubs have yearned all season for consistent production out of not just their offense, but especially the leadoff role. Ben Zobrist is coming around at the right time to take hold of the spot Dexter Fowler filled so admirably during his time in Chicago.
As Ryan Davis said here, “You Zo, We Zo.”
But seriously, Zobrist has looked great. The utility player has a .355 expected weighted on-base average in (xwOBA) in September, according to MLB Advanced Media’s model. Even better, the xStats version (which seems a bit more comprehensive) pegs Zobrist at a nice .369, his highest total of any month this season.
With the Cubs in a stretch of pivotal matchups against the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers, it’s huge to have last year’s World Series MVP looking more like the player we saw in 2016.
