Willson Contreras Suspended Two Games, Appealing

MLB announced Saturday that Willson Contreras has been suspended two games for his actions during Friday’s game. More specifically, the punishment came as the result of his catcher’s mask grazing home plate umpire Jordan Baker after Contreras had thrown said piece of protective gear to the ground.

Despite the complete and utter lack of intent to hit Baker at all, let alone cause any harm, I had assumed he’d get a couple games. Contreras is playing while he appeals the decision and may have a shot at getting it reduced to one game. He displayed sincere contrition after the incident and has no history of similar actions, so it’s not as though MLB needs to take a hard line.

More on this as we have it.
