Surprise (Not Really): Cubs to Interview Jim Hickey for Pitching Coach

In news that comes as a surprise to pretty much no one, the Chicago Cubs will interview former Rays pitching coach (and Chicago native) Jim Hickey on Monday.

By now, you are probably aware that Hickey was Joe Maddon’s pitching coach in Tampa Bay from 2007 up until Maddon left for the Cubs. The duo oversaw as several pitchers flourished into the game’s elite throwers over the years, among them David Price and Chris Archer.

There have still been no official comments regarding Chris Bosio’s “firing,” which I state that way because the Cubs simply didn’t renew Bosio’s contract rather than eat money and let him go elsewhere. Perhaps the Cubs are trying to kill two birds with one stone. That is, they can give comments about Hickey’s (potential) hiring while explaining Bosio’s departure.

As of now, there are no other pitching coaches being interviewed, or at least no one else is reporting such activity. At this point, I’d be shocked if Hickey isn’t giving comments soon about how excited he is to join Maddon and the Cubs.
