The Cubs’ spring roster is now at 49 (hey, that number seems significant for some reason) after they optioned 13 players to minor league camp. Members of the 40-man roster being moved were Adbert Alzolay, Duane Underwood, and Oscar de la Cruz. Among the non-roster invitees were Thomas Hatch, Ian Rice, Bijan Rademacher, and seven others.

None of this comes as a surprise, as they’ve got to get down to 25 players by the end of spring training. Subsequent rounds of cuts should be much more interesting.
