Anthony Rizzo’s MRI Comes Back Clean, Efren Navarro Called Up

The writing was on the wall that Anthony Rizzo was headed to the DL, and by wall I mean the MLB transactions page. This morning we got the official word from the Cubs that the move had been made, and that Efren Navarro would be the one to replace Rizzo on the 25-man roster for the time being.

Drafted by the Angels in 2007, Navarro has posted a .243/.306/.641 slash line with three home runs and 22 RBI in a total of 317 Major League at-bats. Those at-bats have been spread out over five MLB seasons, four with Angels and one with the Detroit Tigers.

This Spring for the Cubs, Navarro posted a .234/.275/.362 slash line with one home run and six RBI in 47 Cactus League at-bats.

Rizzo should be back after the minimum stay on the DL, and not just because he says he’s feeling better. A recent MRI came back clean, so that means we can expect the All-Star to return to action when the Cubs face the Cardinals at Wrigley this coming Monday.
