Injury News: Eddie Butler to 10-Day DL, RHP Luke Farrell Called Up
Eddie Butler has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right groin. Butler pitched in Thursday afternoon’s 8-5 win over the Cardinals, allowing three earned runs without recording an out. It was his worst outing of an otherwise strong start to the 2018 campaign. Butler made his presence known early in the season when he delivered seven innings of relief in the Cubs 17 inning loss to the Marlins in the second game of the year.
Luke Farrell has been called up from AAA Iowa to take his place in the bullpen. Farrell has started two games for the Iowa Cubs so far in 2018, posting a 5.91 ERA in 10.2 IP with a 9.3 K/9 and a 2.5 BB/9. Farrell, a former sixth round pick for the Kansas City Royals in the 2013 MLB Draft, saw MLB time with both the Royals and Cincinnati Reds in 2017, posting a 5.54 ERA in 13.0 innings of relief. His stint with the Reds saw the better of those numbers, with Farrell posting a 2.61 ERA in 10.1 IP. Farrell will be available for the Cubs tonight in Colorado.
