Carl Edwards Jr. Placed On 10-Day DL with Right Shoulder Inflammation, Cory Mazzoni Called Up
After throwing a scoreless inning of relief in Tuesday night’s game in Pittsburgh, Carl Edwards Jr, the Cubs’ String Bean Slinger, felt some discomfort that led to an MRI Wednesday morning.
Results revealed mild inflammation in CJ’s throwing shoulder and the Cubs have subsequently placed him on the 10-day disabled list. RHP Cory Mazzoni, who has appeared in one game for the Cubs this season, has been called up to take Edwards’ place.

Edwards hits the DL in the middle of another stellar season at the back end of the Cubs’ bullpen. He has appeared in 25 games for the Cubs in 2018, posting a 2.88 ERA while striking out 40 batters in just 25.0 innings pitched.
Mazzoni, meanwhile, rejoins the Cubs for his second stint in 2018. Aside from his scoreless inning of relief for the Cubs back on May 7th against Miami, he has posted a 1.25 ERA in 21.2 innings of relief for the AAA Iowa Cubs.
