Watch: Heyward Hammers Hicks Heater, Hits Homer
Jason Heyward has been doing some big things lately, and Saturday night was no exception. After Ben Zobrist reached on an error to lead off the 8th inning, Heyward came up and absolutely unloaded on the first pitch he saw from Cardinals fireballer Jordan Hicks.
The 99.1 mph sinker tailed middle-in, right into Heyward’s barrel, and headed out to the bleachers in right field at around 103 mph. Heyward has typically fared well against heat, but he’s on a different level this season. Part of that has come from Joe Maddon actually trusting him against power pitchers, which may just be a happy accident.
Whatever the case, it’s working and the Cubs are reaping the benefits.
