Anthony Rizzo Wins Second Gold Glove, Javy Baez and Jason Heyward Miss Out
As the MLB offseason enters full swing, we got to see some of the 2018 awards handed out on Sunday evening. Rawlings announced the winners of the Gold Glove Awards, for which three Cubs were nominated.
Anthony Rizzo won his second Gold Glove, tying with Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman for the honor. Rizzo previously won the award in 2016.
Javy Báez lost out on this year, falling to Colorado’s DJ LeMahieu. One day the baseball world will honor Javy for his contributions on defense, but Cubs fans will have to be content enjoying his stellar play for now. Javy did win the Fielding Bible’s Best “Multi-position” defender last week, however.
Jason Heyward also missed out on the award this year after winning four straight dating back to 2014. He won his first in 2012 with the Braves, so perhaps it’s fitting that Nick Markakis took home the honors for the National League this year.
