Cubs Re-Sign RHP Allen Webster
As first reported by Baseball America‘s Matt Eddy, the Cubs have re-signed Allen Webster to a minor league deal. This comes after they had non-tendered the 28-year-old at the end of November, the consequence of a strange chain of events that included Pedro Strop‘s ill-fated at-bat in Washington.
Webster, who has pitched a total of 123.1 major-league innings, made three appearances and for the Cubs in 2018 as they limped down the stretch. This signing is yet another in a series of inexpensive bullpen depth moves Theo Epstein and Co. have made of late, joining George Kontos and Junichi Tazawa.
We’ll have to wait and see whether this will have any impact on the Cubs in 2019, but I’m sure Mr. Papadopoulos and Ma’am are very proud of Webster.
