Report: Jon Lester Will Be Placed on IL with Hamstring Issue
According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, Jon Lester will be placed on the injured list due to the hamstring issue he suffered in Monday’s home opener. The severity of the injury is not known at this point, but it’s entirely possible this isn’t an indication that anything is really amiss.
Source says Jon Lester will be placed on the IL. Don’t know the extent of the injury beyond that.

As discussed in an earlier post about Lester’s desire to make his next start, Joe Maddon had said that just going for an MRI — which Lester did Monday — probably meant skipping a turn. The manager also told 670 The Score he expected Lester to miss at least one start. And with the timing of the Cubs’ schedule being such that Lester would be missing 10 days anyway in that case, placing him on the IL is a procedural move that would keep them from being short-handed in the meantime.
More to come on this matter throughout the afternoon.
