Seven Cubs in Position to Make Second Round as Contreras, Báez Maintain Huge Leads
MLB released the updated 2019 All-Star standings Monday and there are seven Cubs in position to move on to the second round of voting. For those who haven’t been paying attention, this year’s process is a little different from what we’ve seen in the past. Fans still vote in pretty much the same manner, but the top three vote-getters — nine for the outfield — will advance.
Those players are then part of the Starters Election, which takes place over a 28-hour period starting at noon ET on June 26. You’re all smart folks, so I’m going to dispense with any further explanation of the results and just give them to you straight from the MLB.com page with almost no changes.
I say “almost” because I added the accent to Javy’s last name and opted not to show the top 10 at each spot because who cares that Yan Gomes has 101,584 votes at catcher. I’ve also included the AL second base vote as proof that one person can indeed make a difference. Though I have no way to prove it, I think Jesse Rogers is single-handedly keeping Tommy La Stella in first place.
If you haven’t yet cast your vote(s) or would just like to have more influence on the results, you can do so here.

Kinda wild that Bryce Harper wouldn’t even make the next round if voting ended today. Also wild that Daniel Descalso has votes.
