Willson Contreras Exits Saturday’s Game with Hamstring Injury
In the bottom of the seventh inning of Saturday’s game, Willson Contreras grabbed his hamstring in pain three steps hitting a pitch into the left-field gap. He was able to walk off the field under his own power, but he was visibly upset and crying in the dugout.

Willson Contreras is hopping around on one foot around first base right now after lining out. Trainer coming out to check on him.

This is the same hamstring that sidelined Contreras from August 11 to September 10 in 2017. Even though Contreras only hit one double and no homers after returning in 2017, he still batted .289 with a .366 wOBA during the rest of the season.
At best, I think we can hope for a grade 1 hamstring strain with a recovery timeline of two to three weeks, which is the typical protocol for similar strains in MLB.
Stay tuned for more updates.
Update: Contreras was already out for Sunday’s game, so he’ll rest and will then have an MRI Monday to determine the severity of the injury. He’ll be placed on the IL and Taylor Davis will be called up from Iowa to replace him for what everyone can only hope is an abbreviated time.
