Kris Bryant Rocking Custom Cleats, Bat for Players’ Weekend
As he has done for previous Players’ Weekends, Kris Bryant is once again partnering with three local Chicago street artists to customize adidas KB17 cleats and signature Chandler bats to raise awareness for spinal cord research.
Wings For Life is a spinal cord research foundation and charity that KB has supported throughout his time in the majors. Spinal cord injury is near to him as his close friend Cory Hahn, a former All-American high school baseball player, was paralyzed sliding into second base in 2011 while a freshman at Arizona State University.
The cleat and bat designs — brought to life by Chicago artists AFROKILLA, ELLO and Blake Jones — each tell a different story inspired by Bryant’s childhood memories. He will wear the “Wings” themed cleats this weekend to shed light on the not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation, whose mission is to find a cure for spinal cord injury.
The AFROKILLA cleats are inspired by Bryant’s parents. He grew up learning to hit in the batting cage with his dad, which is where he truly fell in love with baseball. ELLO’s cleats by a childhood memory of playing whiffleball and soaring through a neighbor’s window. The Blake Jones design speaks to Bryant’s love of superheroes.
See below for more images of the cleats and bats, all of which will be auctioned off at the Wings for Life Golf Classic on September 23. Fans can bid for the items at the event or online here.
