At the moment, Javy’s timeline to return is unknown. He’ll undergo further examination on Monday in order to determine when — or if — he returns this regular season.
Javy’s been worth 4.3 fWAR in his first full season as the Cubs starting shortstop. In 560 plate appearances, Baez batted .281 with 29 homers and a .347 wOBA. And defensively, Javy’s UZR/150 is 3rd best in MLB behind only Trevor Story and Paul DeJong.
This is obviously a huge blow for the Cubs in the middle of a pennant race and behind the Cardinals by 2.5 games in the division. This doesn’t mean Javy is out for the season, but he is more than likely going to miss several weeks before returning.
