Brandon Morrow Sidelined 10-14 Days with Mild Calf Tear
I know this will be hard to believe, but Brandon Morrow is hurt again. The righty reliever had just resumed throwing after being shut down by a mild upper chest strain when he felt something in his calf while running. Morrow told Sahadev Sharma that an MRI revealed a mild tear that will sideline him for 10-14 days.
Yeesh.
Brandon Morrow told me he threw Thursday and his chest felt good. Unfortunately he was running afterwards and felt something in his calf. Had an MRI yesterday and has a mild tear in his calf (Grade 1 plus) and will be sidelined 10-14 days.

There comes a time in nearly every athlete’s career at which they have to refuse to allow their body to betray them any further. The lucky few are those who go out before having to make that choice, but it’s seems as though Morrow missed his window about 18 months ago. Now, after no fewer than three procedures on his right elbow in that time, the hard-throwing righty still seems determined to make his way back.
More power to him in that endeavor, and I truly believe he’s got the ability to help the Cubs if he can ever stay healthy. That’s a major question mark at this point, though, so the Cubs really need some of their other buy-low candidates to step up. Having Dillon Maples finally put it all together wouldn’t be bad either.
