Hernán Pérez Added to Cubs’ 60-Man Pool, Will Participate in Wednesday Workout
Hernán Pérez was one of the more notable absences from the Cubs’ initial player pool, but the club announced Wednesday that he has been added. He is joining the team in Chicago and will work out with infielders Wednesday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs signed Pérez to a minor league deal back in December and he was a non-roster invitee to spring training, so his inclusion here was expected. Why he wasn’t added immediately isn’t clear at this point, but it’s likely this was a procedural move, perhaps to rework his deal.
Though he isn’t what you’d call a difference-maker, he’s a versatile defensive player and makes sense as a guy who provides depth for an uncertain season ahead. The Cubs’ 60-man player pool now consists of 51 players, giving them plenty of room to add more over the next couple of weeks.
