José Quintana Has Stitches Removed, Will Resume Throwing Thursday
According to a report from Jon Heyman, Cubs lefty José Quintana had his stitches removed Wednesday and is expected to resume a throwing program on Thursday. There is no timetable for his return to the rotation at this point, but the Cubs will know more once they see him in action.
Jose Quintana’s checkup went well, his stitches came out and he’ll start tossing tomorrow, via NL sources. Team will know more once he ramps up. Quintana suffered the cut thumb injury washing his dishes, specifically his wine glasses. #Cubs

One complicating factor here is that Quintana never participated in summer workouts, so there’s no way to really judge where he was in terms of pitching shape. Even being diligent with his workouts during the shutdown wouldn’t have had him ramped up for longer starts, so it may yet be a few weeks before he’s ready.
Q has always been an innings-eater, though, so maybe he’ll get up to speed quickly.
