Cubs @ Tigers Series Preview (August 24-26): TV and Game Info, Starting Pitchers, Insights
The Cubs entered a whopping 12-game homestand with an excellent 12-3 record, which they needed when they were rudely reminded that good times can’t stay good forever. A team-wide offensive slump led to a disappointing 5-7 record over those three series, including losses to the Brewers and White Sox.
Chicago’s big bats have nearly all gotten off to dreadful starts this season. In any other year they would have time to recover, but we are almost to the halfway through the 2020 campaign. The promising news is that, other than Kris Bryant, who sits on the injured list with a wrist sprain, all the impact bats are healthy. With the pitching performing well, just one or two sluggers need to get hot to start winning games again.
The Cubs begin a 10-game road trip with three games in Detroit against the Tigers, who are in full rebuild mode and sit at 11-15 with the worst ERA in baseball. Jonathan Schoop and former Cub Jeimer Candelario are their top hitters so far this season.
This is a chance for the Cubs offense to wake up against a suspect pitching staff and maintain or build the early lead they jumped out to. Here’s hoping this series is start of another hot stretch.

What to Watch For
- No starter has been named for Tuesday, but José Quintana and Tyler Chatwood both are possibilities to come off the injured list.
- Lester and Mills both had rough outings last time on the hill.
- Javy Báez has admitted to pressing at the plate and could really use a big game or three to right the ship.
