Tyler Chatwood and José Quintana Activated, Jason Adam and Ian Miller Optioned to Make Room

Tyler Chatwood and José Quintana have officially been activated from the injured list and both could appear in Tuesday’s game. Chatwood is a certainty because he’ll be starting, but Quintana could follow in a modified piggyback role if the situation is right.

In order to make room on the roster, right-handed reliever Jason Adam and outfielder Ian Miller were optioned to South Bend. I’ll reserve my personal opinions on the latter as I’ve made them quite clear over the last several weeks. The Cubs can hang a bunch of runs when they’re banging, it’s when they aren’t playing longball that things get jammed up. Miller seemed like a way to combat that.

Alas, this should get the pitching staff closer to full strength and certainly improves the depth of the starting rotation.
