Cubs Acquire OF Cameron Maybin from Tigers
In a move that had been rumored over the weekend, the Cubs have acquired 33-year-old outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Tigers. He’s been limited by a quad strain and a backup role and has posted a .726 OPS in just 45 plate appearances this season. As of post time, no additional details of the trade were available.

A right-handed hitter, Maybin has very limited pop but has flashed a little speed and has a .444 average against lefties this season. However, he’s actually hit righties better over the course of his career and is just an okay defensive player with -6 DRS over his career and -1 this season, so it’s hard to really understand this move as anything other than emergency depth.
Then again, he’s flashed significant value as a backup in recent seasons and could provide the spark the Cubs haven’t gotten from Albert Almora Jr.
According to Chris McCoskey, the Cubs traded minor league shortstop Zack Short for Maybin.
