Chicago Cubs Lineup (9/5/20, Game 2): Happ Leads Off, Bote at 1B, Rea Starting Bullpen Game

After a disappointing loss in the first game, the Cubs are leaning on their bullpen for the second half of Saturday’s doubleheader. The Cardinals are doing the same, so this one could be interesting.

Ian Happ’s 189 wRC+ is the highest in baseball among qualified hitters and he’s back in the lineup leading off in center tonight. David Bote is batting second and playing…first base(?), followed by Kyle Schwarber in left and Javy Báez at short. José Martínez is the DH, Jason Heyward is in right, Victor Caratini is the catcher, Nico Hoerner is at third, and Jason Kipnis plays second.

Colin Rea will start the game for the Cubs and he might be asked to put in a little more work than initially expected. Adbert Alzolay fell apart early in the first game and forced David Ross to turn to his relievers for extended work, so every out Rea can record will be a big help.

The Cubs could really use this win to stay ahead in the series heading into the last two games over the holiday weekend.
