Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (9/24/20): Pirates 7, Cubs 0 – Kuhl and the Gang Blank Cubs
The Cubs and their fans were hoping for a better outcome in Pittsburgh Thursday. The Pirates quickly disabused them of those hopes and crushed Chicago to win the series.
The Cubs managed just two hits against the decidedly average Chad Kuhl. and continued the anemic offensive output that has people fearing the playoffs. The Pirates had much better luck, bombing Alec Mills and Kyle Ryan for four homers. There is little else to say about Pittsburgh’s romp. (Box score)
Why the Cubs Lost
They were being no-hit into the 6th inning by Chad Kuhl.
Key Moment
Colin Moran hit a solo homer off of Mills with two outs in the 1st inning and the game was basically over after that.
Stats That Matter
- Mills fell victim to the longball again and surrendered lots of hard contact: 3.2 IP, 4 R, 8 H, 2 K, 3 HR, and 1 BB.
- Anthony Rizzo stung the ball a few times and doubled to end the no-hitter.
Bottom Line
Not sure what to add about this offense that hasn’t been said a thousand times. It’s incredibly hard to win when you score 10 runs in seven games.
On Deck
The Cubs finish the regular season with three on the South Side starting Friday at 7:10pm CT. Yu Darvish pitches against a yet to be announced White Sox starter in a game on Marquee and 670 The Score.
