Cubs SVP Jason McLeod Among 5 Finalists for Angels VP Opening
Update: Maybe the Angels aren’t trying to copy the Cubs after all. According to Joel Sherman, who has taken a brief respite from his wild Cubs trade proposals, neither current SVP of player personnel Jason McLeod nor former AGM Jared Porter are under consideration for the GM vacancy in Anaheim.
Hear that the #Cubs Jason McLeod and #Diamondbacks Jared Porter are no longer under consideration to be the next #Angels general manager.

According to Ken Rosenthal, Cubs senior VP of player personnel Jason McLeod is among the five finalists for the Angels’ GM opening. Three other finalists are Diamondbacks assistant GMs Jared Porter and Amiel Sawdaye and Mariners assistant GM Justin Hollander. The identity of the other finalist is not known as of post time.
The Angels are down to five finalists for their GM opening and could decide by the end of the week, sources tell The Athletic. Four of the finalists are Cubs senior VP Jason McLeod, DBacks assistant GMs Jared Porter and Amiel Sawdaye and Mariners assistant GM Justin Hollander.

Cubs VP of scouting Dan Kantrovitz was reportedly asked to interview with the Angels but deferred, though McLeod has been with the organization for quite a while and might be looking to spread his wings. He had previously overseen the scouting and development efforts prior to being moved into his current role, a move many saw as an indictment of McLeod’s performance.
It’s also possible he was being put in a better position to interview for and get a bigger job elsewhere, which could be the case given this latest report. Interestingly enough, McLeod isn’t the only finalist with Cubs ties. Porter was an intern under Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer with the Red Sox in 2004, then spent some time in Chicago as well before being plucked away by Arizona along with Jason “Professor” Parks.
Rosenthal tweeted that a decision on the Angels job could come within the next week, well ahead of the team’s stated goal of having things figured out by Thanksgiving.
Update: Per LA Times Angels beat writer Maria Torres, Braves assistant GM Perry Minasian is the fifth candidate.
