Cubs Sign Veteran OF Cameron Maybin to Minors Deal
It’s not quite at the Dexter Fowler level, but the Cubs have facilitated a spring training reunion with an outfielder who had a very positive impact for them last season. On the eve of full-squad workouts, they have agreed to a minors deal with veteran outfielder Cameron Maybin.

A journeyman who has played for nine teams over 10 seasons, Maybin isn’t necessarily a difference-maker in the field or at the plate at this point. As such, I don’t feel it necessary to reference his stats here. While he’s had some very productive performances that shouldn’t be discounted, the Cubs brought him back because he’s a versatile athlete who is also excellent in the clubhouse.
The odds may not be in Maybin’s favor when it comes to making the roster out of camp, but he’s a good dude who came up with some timely hits last year and he may have a few more such knocks left in his bat. That’s why they traded for him last year, so it only makes sense to see if it can work out again.
