Cubs Place Matt Duffy on IL, Promote Patrick Wisdom, DFA Jason Adam
The Cubs have placed Matt Duffy on the IL retroactive to May 23 with a lower back strain and have promoted Patrick Wisdom from Triple-A Iowa. In 43 career MLB games between the Cardinals (2018), Rangers (2019), and Cubs (2020), Wisdom has hit .218 (17-for-78) with two doubles, four home runs and 11 RBI over 17 games at third base and 11 games at first.
He had a .913 OPS with a double, three home runs, 11 RBI, and six walks in eight games for the I-Cubs after going 0-for-14 in his first four games.
In order to make room on the roster, reliever Jason Adam was designated for assignment. That’s really just a procedural move, and a really tough one at that, because Adam recently underwent surgery to repair a broken ankle suffered while shagging flies during pregame BP with Iowa. While it makes sense for the Cubs, this really sucks for Adam.
