Cubs Activate Nico Hoerner from IL, Option Sergio Alcántara to AAA
The Cubs have activated infielder Nico Hoerner from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Sergio Alcántara to Triple-A Iowa. Before being sidelined on May 26 with a left hamstring strain, Hoerner batted .338 with seven doubles, nine RBI, and an .837 OPS in 21 games. He hit safely in all four rehab games he played with Iowa.
Alcántara, 24, is hitting .179 with three doubles, three triples, two home runs, and four RBI in 30 games for the Cubs this season. He also provided excellent defense at the middle infield spots. With this move, Eric Sogard remains the primary backup second baseman.
