Anthony Rizzo Traded to Yankees for Two Prospects

The Red Sox had been discussed most often as a potential Anthony Rizzo suitor, but their biggest rivals jumped ahead of them. Jack Curry of YES Network first reported a potential deal, then Ken Rosenthal confirmed it was done.

The Yankees haven’t gotten good production from the left side of the plate, but that should change with the acquisitions of Rizzo and Joey Gallo. No word on the return yet, but this one is going to sting no matter who the Cubs get back.

You may want to earmuff the kids for this next part, but it’s a goddamn shame that David Ross wasn’t able to get Rizzo into Thursday’s game in what May have been his final time in a Cubs uniform. The whole situation just sucks ass, and I couldn’t care less if such language is beneath a “journalist.”

This won’t be the last big move the Cubs make, so please keep all arms and legs inside the vehicle until the ride comes to a complete stop.

Update: The Cubs are paying the entirety of Rizzo’s remaining salary and will receive outfielder Kevin Alcantara and pitcher Alexander Vizcaino in return. FanGraphs ranks Alcantara as the No. 7 prospect in the Yankees’ system and he could be in a similar spot when Cubs rankings are updated. Vizcaino is No. 12 and is a solid second piece.

As hard as this may be to swallow from a personal standpoint, it’s probably a pretty good return for a team that is very clearly in full tear-down mode.
