Cubs Add RHP Codi Heuer to Active Roster
The Cubs have added right-handed pitcher Codi Heuer (pronounced like Jed’s last name) to the 26-man roster. Heuer was acquired from the White Sox along with infielder Nick Madrigal — who is out for the year following surgery on a torn hamstring — for Craig Kimbrel. He will wear uniform number 12 and is available for Saturday’s game against the Nationals in DC.
Selected by the White Sox in the sixth round of the 2018 draft, the 25-year-old debuted in 2020 and went 3-0 with a save, six holds, and a 1.52 ERA in 21 relief appearances. He struck out 25 and walked nine while allowing just a .145 opponent batting average.
This season, Heuer is 4-1 with 13 holds and a 5.12 ERA in 40 relief appearances. He has averaged 9.1 K/9 with 39 strikeouts compared to 10 walks and has stranded 19 of 23 inherited runners.
