Adbert Alzolay to 10-Day IL with Hamstring Strain
Adbert Alzolay was in obvious discomfort after delivering a pitch in the 2nd inning of Friday’s game, immediately signaling for the trainer. He left the game with just one out in the frame after having surrendered six earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out only one Marlins batter. Alzolay was charged with his ninth straight losing decision and 13th of the year to just four wins.
The Cubs have placed the 26-year-old on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain, which is less than ideal given the timing and how thin the rotation has gotten. Despite Alzolay’s poor results over the last two-plus months, he could have really benefited from more experience with a repertoire that is still very new. Though it could just be precautionary, hamstring issues can be very tricky.
Trevor Megill has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa to take Alzolay’s spot on the roster, but that will likely be short-lived as the Cubs will need another starter in four days.
