Chicago Cubs Lineup (9/26/21): Thompson Pitching, Duffy at Third, Martini in Left for Cubs Home Finale

Just as all good things must come to an end, so too must all bad things. The Cubs host the Cardinals for their final home game of the season today. The fact that the Cubs have now played a part in the Cardinals’ 15-game winning streak just makes this whole season that much more abhorrent. It’s time to put this season in the rearview mirror and begin focusing on the future, whatever that may be.

Rafael Ortega leads off today for the Cubs playing center, followed by Frank Schwindel at first, Ian Happ in right, and Willson Contreras behind the dish.

Patrick Wisdom was in the first iteration of today’s lineup but has been pulled due to a sore wrist. Matt Duffy slides in at third batting fifth, followed by Nick Martini in left, Sergio Alcantara at short, and David Bote at second.

Keegan Thompson is on the mound for the second time since being activated from the IL and he’ll be looking to work at least a little deeper this time. His big problem has been finishing batters, which might be a mental thing that comes with moving back to the rotation from the bullpen. The way the Cardinals are slugging lately, Thompson is going to need to toss a gem to have a chance.

First pitch is at 1:20pm CT on Marquee and 670 The Score.
