Cubs Promote C Erick Castillo From Triple-A Iowa, Austin Romine to IL
The Chicago Cubs have made a series of roster moves today that are seemingly all related to COVID-19 without specifically saying they’re related to COVID-19.
On Wednesday, the Cubs announced that Patrick Wisdom would be placed on the IL with an undisclosed injury. We also learned that the Cubs were planning to promote Tyler Payne.
And now today, in addition to those moves, the Cubs have placed Austin Romine on the IL for the same undisclosed injury. Catcher Erick Castillo was promoted from Triple-A Iowa, his first call-up in nearly 11 years in the Cubs organization, which is pretty cool for him.
Surely all of this is COVID-related, and we know that because the team is also carrying a five-man taxi squad with them tonight for their series finale in Pittsburgh. How this all plays out is anyone’s guess, but we’ll find out as the game nears and gets underway.
With Patrick Wisdom and Austin Romine on the injured list for undisclosed issues, the Cubs are activating catcher Erick Castillo and carrying a five-man taxi squad: pitchers Dakota Mekkes and Joe Biagini; infielders Jared Young and Tyler Ladendorf; and catcher Tyler Payne.
