Chicago Cubs Lineup (3/18/22): Stroman Debuts, Hoerner Leads Off, Schwindel Third, Frazier Cleanup

The Cubs are back in action Friday night against the Giants and they’ll send Marcus Stroman to the hill for the first time in his new uniform. The righty has been a positive-energy machine since signing with Chicago and now he gets a chance to let his pitching do the talking.

Tonight’s lineup more closely resembles something you’d typically see during spring training, which it should because, well, this is spring training. But Thursday’s split-squad contests featured a lot of minor leaguers who aren’t even close to the 40-man roster, so it was a bit of an adjustment for viewers who may not be as keyed into the organization on the whole.

Nico Hoerner will lead off at short, followed by Rafael Ortega in center and Frank Schwindel batting third at first. Clint Frazier will hit cleanup and I think the ginger sneakerhead might just go yard in this one. Yan Gomes is behind the plate batting fifth, then it’s Ildemaro Vargas at second base, Greg Deichmann in right, and Nelson Velasquez at DH.

First pitch from Scottsdale Stadium is at 9:05pm CT on Marquee Sports Network and MLB.tv, which is free for now with no blackouts.
