Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (4/4/22): Cubs 15, White Sox 9 – Offense Explodes in Win
The Cubs welcomed the White Sox to Sloan Park for the final home game of spring training on Monday. The home team exploded offensively with what will likely be their opening day lineup and rolled to a win behind three homers out of 18 total hits.
The powerful White Sox lineup jumped on Cubs starter Drew Smyly to build a 4-0 lead after two innings, but the Cubs battled back with a six-run outburst in the 3rd. The big blow came on a Willson Contreras two-run homer, his second of the spring.
Ian Happ hit a monster solo home run in the bottom of the 5th inning that made it all the way above the berm in right-center. That was just the beginning of a seven-run frame that featured a rare three-run dinger from Nick Madrigal.

The White Sox chipped away as the game went on, but the Cubs were able to take a 15-9 victory. (Box score)
Why the Cubs Won
Scoring 15 runs is a good way to take home a victory and that was the case on Monday. Hitting three home runs also is a pretty good strategy.
Key Moment
The 3rd-inning rally began when Nico Hoerner tripled to dead center. It also included run-scoring singles from Seiya Suzuki and Jason Heyward.
Stats That Matter
- Happ had three hits and walk on Monday and looks like he’s ready to go.
- Hoerner posted a walk and a single in addition to his triple.
- Ethan Roberts pitched a clean inning and then found out he made the big league roster in the best way possible.

Bottom Line
Spring training is basically over and the real games start in just two days. The Cubs would love to see more games like Monday, especially with the bats.
