Clint Frazier Placed on IL Due to Appendicitis
The Cubs will place Clint Frazier on the IL with appendicitis and will make a corresponding roster move Friday. That could mean bringing back Alfonso Rivas, who has been dominating at Triple-A Iowa and can play a corner spot if needed. The Cubs would do well to keep both players in Chicago once Frazier is activated, but that would mean creating a roster spot.
If only there was a way to replace a left-handed bat/outfielder.
In other Cubs injury news, lefty Wade Miley will throw a bullpen session Friday as he works his way back from elbow inflammation that caused him to miss all of spring training. Alec Mills will make a rehab start in Iowa Saturday as he gets past back stiffness that has kept him out of active duty during the regular season.
Mills could be back by next week and Miley shouldn’t be far behind, giving David Ross a little more length in both the rotation and bullpen.
