Chicago Cubs Lineup (5/9/22): Contreras Leading Off, Schwindel Back and at First Base, Hendricks Looking to Rebound
The Chicago Cubs travel to the west coast for the next week beginning with a three-game series in San Diego. There are a whole lot of questions surrounding the Cubs these days, not the least of which is who is going to pitch for the team on Tuesday and Wednesday.
What we do know is that Kyle Hendricks (1-3, 5.64 ERA) will take the mound tonight hoping for a badly needed bounce-back game, for both him and the Cubs. Hendricks has given up 10 earned runs over his last two outings that lasted a combined 10 innings. That’s not good, in case you’re playing along at home.
Willson Contreras is back at the top of the order where he’s been most productive this season, albeit over a very small sample of two games. In those two games atop the lineup he’s batted .429/.500/1.143, including a home run and a triple.
Seiya Suzuki bats second playing right, followed by Patrick Wisdom at third, and Jan Gomes catching.
Frank Schwindel was reportedly optioned to Iowa less than 24 hours ago and, yet, there he is starting at first and batting fifth for the Cubs tonight. Go figure. Following Schwindel, and batting sixth, is Nico Hoerner at short, Ian Happ in left, Nick Madrigal at second, and Jason Heyward playing center.
Game time is 8:40pm CT and it can be seen and heard on Marquee Sports Network and 607 The Score.
