Chicago Cubs Lineup (5/10/22): Miley Makes Cubs Debut, Suzuki DH, Contreras Batting Cleanup, Hermosillo to IL

Wade Miley has long been an adversary of the Chicago Cubs but tonight he will line up and go into battle alongside the Boys in Blue. Miley started the season on the IL with elbow inflammation and had one rehab start with the I-Cubs that went very well just five days ago.

Miley relies primarily on four pitches: the four-seam fastball, cutter, changeup, and slider. He’ll occasionally mix in a curveball just to keep hitters honest. That repertoire has led him to a career 4.15 ERA, but don’t be deceived by what would appear to be a slightly higher ERA than you might expect. In 2021, with the Cincinnati Reds, Miley had a very respectable 3.37 ERA.

To make room on the roster for Miley, OF Michael Hermosillo was placed on the 10-day IL with a left quad strain.

Rafael Ortega leads things off for the Cubs tonight playing RF. He’s followed in the order by Seiya Suzuki, who’s back after tweaking his right ankle last night, playing DH. Ian Happ is batting third playing LF, Willson Contreras, the Cubs’ hottest hitter right now, is catching, Alfonso Rivas bats fifth playing 1B, Nico Hoerner is at SS, Jason Heyward in CF, Patrick Wisdom at 3B, and Jonathan Villar is at 2B.

The San Diego Padres will have RHP Mike Clevinger on the hill tonight as he gets his second start since coming off the IL last week. Historically, Clevinger has been very good, with a career 3.21 ERA. In his first start this season, he went 4.2 innings against the Cleveland Guardians while giving up three runs on four hits and three walks. Expect him to be better than that tonight.

First pitch tonight is scheduled for 9:40pm CT. The game can be seen on
