Willson Contreras Leads NL Catchers in First Look at ASG Voting
Willson Contreras is the clear leader among NL catchers in the first look at All-Star ballot standings, with his 801,630 votes leading Travis d’Arnaud of the Braves by a wide margin. Not surprisingly, Contreras is the only Cubs player anywhere near the top of the position lists, though Patrick Wisdom is at No. 8 among third basemen.
Nico Hoerner is 10th among shortstops with less than one-tenth of Trea Turner‘s roughly 812K votes and Ian Happ is 17th in a crowded outfield mix. Mookie Betts, who is currently injured, leads all NL vote-getters with 1,446,050 in this first release. Aaron Judges leads all of MLB with 1,512,368 votes. The top vote-getters in each league after Phase 1 will automatically be named starters.
This initial phase lasts until 2pm ET on June 30, during which time fans can vote up to five times every 24 hours. From there, the top two at each position (top six outfielders) will advance to the finals and voting will reset to determine starters.
Oh, one more note: William Contreras is the No. 2 designated hitter in NL voting behind Bryce Harper.
