Chicago Cubs Lineup (7/1/22): Sampson P, Crook CF, Morel 2B
The Chicago Cubs (30-46) take on the Boston Red Sox (43-33) in a three-game series at Wrigley Field beginning today (series preview here). The Cubs have won three of their past four series and just took 2-of-3 from the Reds at Wrigley Field, where the Cubs haven’t played well all year. Perhaps with the warmer weather finally upon us, the Cubs will start to hang some W’s at home.
Adrian Sampson (0-0, 1.69 ERA) will get the start today, just his second start of the season. He’s been very good so far, but the sample size of just 10.2 innings doesn’t give us a whole lot to go on. In 35.1 innings last season for the Cubs he posted a 2.80 ERA, which suggests we could continue to see Sampson pitch well. If he does today, the Cubs should have a good chance against a Red Sox team that was 20-6 in June.
Leading off for the Cubs today is Christopher Morel playing second, Willson Contreras is catching, Ian Happ is in left, Patrick Wisdom is playing third, and Narciso Crook is in center. Yan Gomes is DH, P.J. Higgins is at first, Nelson Velazquez is in right, and Andrelton Simmons is playing short.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:20pm CT from Wrigley Field. The game will be broadcast on Marquee Sports Network, MLB Network (out-of-market) and 670 The Score.
