Chicago Cubs Lineup (7/6/22): Sampson P, Velázquez RF, Higgins C as Cubs Look For Series Win
The Chicago Cubs are playing for their fourth straight series win today as they take on the Milwaukee Brewers in the final game of their three-game set. That’s the good news. The bad news is that they’re still 15 games under .500 with nary a hope of finishing this season with a winning record. But beating the Brewers in Milwaukee should be motivation enough for today.
Adrian Sampson (0-0, 3.38 ERA) has been a surprisingly good addition to the Cubs staff this season. He isn’t overpowering — touching the low 90s with his four-seamer — but his mix of five different pitches, all that he uses on a fairly regular basis, has done a very nice job of keeping opposing hitters off balance.
Sampson has only surrendered one home run this season in 16 innings pitched, and he’s generated fairly weak contact with an average exit velocity of just 87.9 mph. That should bode well for him and the Cubs today because Milwaukee relies heavily on the home run to score. Force the Brewers to keep the ball in the yard and the Cubs should be in a good position to win.
Rafael Ortega is batting leadoff today playing left, Nico Hoerner is at short, Ian Happ is DH, Patrick Wisdom is at third, and Nelson Velázquez is in right. Alfonso Rivas is at first, P.J. Higgins is catching, Christopher Morel in in center, and Andrelton Simmons is at second.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10pm CT from Milwaukee. The game will be broadcast on Marquee Sports Network and 670 The Score.
