Blue Jays Have Strong Interest in Ian Happ, Relief Help
The Blue Jays have been scouting the Cubs heavily heading into the deadline and we’ve already heard reports of their interest in Ian Happ. That may have intensified in light of George Springer‘s elbow injury, which kept him out of their Sunday game and is something he is “going to have to fight through all year.” Happ is better served in left field, but has played center in the past and could work as part of a timeshare there if needed.
#BlueJays have been scouting the Cubs (as you'd expect). David Robertson makes a lot of sense for Jays, as he does for most contenders. Could Drew Smyly be a fit in Toronto, too? https://t.co/F6nOj1r2wT

In addition to the tweet quoted above, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi confirms the oft-repeated notion that the Cubs are believed to be pairing their hitters with relievers and mentioned the Jays are interested in Happ plus a bullpen arm. Ben Nicholson-Smith of SportsNet speculated that David Robertson or even Drew Smyly could make sense.
More to come as the market unfolds.
