Chicago Cubs Lineup (8/11/22): Smyly Pitching, Madrigal Leading Off at Field of Dreams
The Chicago Cubs will take on the Cincinnati Reds tonight at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa. The Cubs have won their last two series and are entering tonight’s game on a bit of a high note, which is a nice change. As for the Reds, they’ve won or tied five of six series since the All-Star break, dropping just one to the Mets.
Drew Smyly (4-6, 3.97 ERA) looks to continue his solid season. His most recent outing was a dominant performance against the Marlins, allowing no runs and just five hits over 6.2 innings. Once thought to be a sure thing to be traded at the deadline, Smyly now finds himself playing for a payday next season, assuming he does not return to the Cubs on his mutual option.
Nick Madrigal has been playing much better lately, slashing .333/.444/.400 since returning from the IL on August 4. He will be rewarded by batting leadoff tonight and playing second base.
Willson Contreras is catching, Patrick Wisdom is at third, Seiya Suzuki is in right, and Nico Hoerner is at short. Ian Happ is in left, Nelson Velazquez is DH, P.J. Higgins is at first, and Christopher Morel is in center.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:15pm CT. The game is being broadcast on FOX and 670 The Score.
